Some connectors are manufactured for high-load environments like industrial settings; others are made for quick deployment or light-traffic applications like entertainment venues; and some connectors, like the “Gripper” Grip Guard connector, are ergonomically designed to be easier to carry.

Connector Types and Load Capacity

The first component to consider when looking for the right connector type is the environment it will be used in. Each connector type is designed with a specific application in mind. Some are meant for light-duty settings and others are meant for high-load worksites. To help you find the right connector type, here is a description of the various load-capacities and the connector type that would perform best in those settings.

High-Load Capacity. For applications with heavy trucks or other vehicles like industrial, mining or military settings, it is important to choose a connector type that is designed to withstand extreme weight. The Linebacker cable protector features a T-shaped connector that is designed for high-load capacities while retaining connection integrity between cable protectors. The heavy-duty Yellow Jacket with Dog-bone connectors is also well suited for high-load capacities.

Medium-Load Capacity. For environments with smaller vehicles or large amounts of foot traffic like public, commercial or entertainment venues, connectors that combine versatility and durability are ideal. The Yellow Jacket with Dog-Bone connectors or the Guard Dog with Dog-bone connectors would be well-suited to this environment.

Light-Load Capacity. For lighter traffic environments that mostly consist of foot traffic or lightweight vehicles, The Bumble Bee with Dog-bone or T-connectors, the Fastlane with L-connectors, and the Grip Guard Gripper connectors are ideal. Both the Fastlane and Grip Guard are easy to deploy and the ergonomic handles of the Gripper connectors make it easier to transport.

Descriptions of Connector Types

In addition to the context a connector will be used in, it is also important to consider what kind of connector type your cable protector should have. Here is a breakdown of the different connector types to help you find which one is right for you.

Hourglass Connectors. These connectors were designed as part of the AMS or Advanced Modular System.
